Free Piston ServoRam features several different arrangements by which the electromagnetic system can be constructed to exert external forces without the use of a rod or tube attached to the armature or piston of the machine. It has particular use in relation to chemical processing of gases and to the inducement of vibrations in machinery for (e.g.) moving objects through the soil. One of the versions can be used to strike a precise - and precisely timed - blow; for example, to a chisel.
